Oxford Active Ltd has been running for over 20 years and we look for Outdoor Camp Managers that have 2 years’ experience working with children and ideally 1 year’s management experience as well as experience in outdoor education.
If you love working with children, have leadership qualities and experience as well as plenty of enthusiasm and a great knowledge of safeguarding and OFSTED, you could be leading our team of Outdoor Instructors! This is a rewarding role where you will be organising and overseeing the running of a whole range of activities and keeping children safe in a stimulating and caring environment.
Active Adventure Camps have been specifically designed for children aged 6 – 14 years old. The instructors pride themselves in being able to provide meaningful, creative, and engaging outdoor learning experiences, through a range of activities. You’ll also assist in the daily organisation and operation of the camp so that children are kept safe, learn new skills, and have fun.
Activities may include: Canoeing, kayaking, raft building, nature art projects, archery, shelter building, orienteering, survival skills, fire lighting, search and rescue training, wood carving, foraging, navigation training, minibeast hunts, assault courses, swimming, indoor rock climbing, camp fire cooking, and team building games. Some activities are dependent on the site facilities.
Your Key Duties
You will have the responsibility for overseeing, managing and running the whole holiday camp. This will include the set up and training day prior to the first day of camp starting. You’ll oversee a team of Outdoor Instructors and speak with parents and carers. Working together as a team you will provide a programme of creative and fun play opportunities for children aged 6 – 14 years.
You will also prepare and implement the daily staff rota, including lunch breaks, to ensure camp is staffed at all times with a safe ratio of adults to children, safety briefs are done before an activity and risks assessments are in place.
You’ll be ensuring that all staff are familiar with the daily routine (such as games) and are familiar with all relevant camp policies, procedures and risk assessments.
We are a team so work with staff on building effective, informative and strong relationships with children’s parents/carers. You may also be dealing directly with parents’/carers’ enquiries and requests as necessary. Lead your team to build effective and positive working relationships with the host school as well as their staff.
When conducting observations of staff running their activities, keep them motivated by providing constructive and positive feedback. You will also be responsible for conducting regular staff performance reviews and where necessary take disciplinary action.
It is vital you understand and adhere to Ofsted requirements to be registered on the Early Years register, and the Compulsory & Voluntary Childcare registers. Ensure that the correct records, risk assessments and other paperwork are in place to keep children safe.
You’ll administer first aid as appropriate and ensure accident and incident forms are completed where necessary.
